Nepal infrastructure repairs underway to restore flood-damaged roads and bridges

Authorities in Nepal are working to restore critical road and bridge infrastructure damaged by recent flooding. The Department of Roads aims to resume full traffic on the Galchhi-Syabrubesi road section by the Dashain festival.

Significant progress has been made, including temporary repairs at Kolpu Khola and the reopening of a 200-meter section at Ratomate. In Nuwakot, the Nepal Army has installed a Bailey bridge at Devighat to facilitate travel from Galchhi to Bidur. While most of the Bidur-Betravati section is open, work continues to clear a 300-meter landslide blockage. Future plans include installing Bailey bridges at Betravati and Syabrubesi.

Parallel to road repairs, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development is addressing damaged water crossings. Four motorized cable ferries (tuins) have been operationalized in areas including the Trishuli River and Syabrubesi-Chilime hydropower project sites. Additionally, the ministry is managing the repair of 20 damaged suspension bridges and preparing detailed project reports to reconstruct 33 bridges that were completely destroyed by the floods.
