Nepal rescue teams search for 100 workers trapped in hydropower tunnel
Rescue teams are working to locate more than 100 workers and residents believed to be trapped in a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-3A hydropower project site. The incident follows a devastating landslide and flood near the border of Nepal and China that occurred on Wednesday.
The Nepali Army reports having rescued approximately 350 people from the hydropower tunnel. However, search operations continue under dangerous conditions. In the Nuwakot district, military helicopters have been deployed to evacuate injured and isolated residents.
The death toll from the disaster has reached at least 472 people, including 469 in Nepal and three in China's Tibet region. More than 1,500 people remain missing across both countries, including tourists and pilgrims. The flooding has caused widespread displacement and significant destruction in the northern regions.
