Balendra Shah says Nepal and India have mutually encroached lands, seeks historic multilateral talks

Prime Minister Balendra Shah told Nepal’s parliament that both Nepal and India have encroached each other’s territory in several places. He said the issue relates to cross‑border occupation of no‑man’s land (Dasgaja) and that Nepal has already sent a diplomatic note to India, receiving a response that both sides will form teams of historians, surveyors and other experts to resolve the dispute. Shah also announced that Nepal will broaden the dialogue to include China and the United Kingdom, arguing that Britain’s colonial legacy makes it a relevant historic stakeholder. Technical committees are resuming work on border pillar construction and data collection, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that Shah’s remarks referred to these occupation cases rather than any change in Nepal’s official position on the disputed Kalapani, Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Susta areas defined by the 1816 Sugauli Treaty.
