Nepal PM Shah calls for global cooperation on climate change

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has pledged to seek increased global cooperation to mitigate and manage the risks and disasters caused by climate change. In a message delivered to the Gharpuijhong Climate Conference in Mustang, Shah emphasized that addressing these impacts is a shared responsibility of the international community.

The Prime Minister intends to use his address at the 81st United Nations General Assembly to highlight the specific damages and potential solutions regarding the climate crisis facing Nepal. He noted that rising temperatures are causing melting mountains, glacial outbursts, increased river flows, drying water sources, and unpredictable weather patterns.

These environmental shifts are significantly impacting Nepal’s Himalayan, hilly, and Terai regions, affecting local livelihoods, agriculture, and biodiversity. The two-day conference, organized by Gharpuijhong Rural Municipality and inaugurated by Minister for Agriculture, Forests, and Environment Gita Chaudhary, brings together local and provincial leaders to discuss climate crisis risks.
