Nepal rescue teams search hydroelectric tunnels after deadly floods

Rescue teams in Nepal, including units from the Army and Police, are continuing search operations following devastating floods caused by the Bhotekoshi River on August 26. Search efforts are currently focused on tunnels at the Upper Trishuli 1 hydroelectric plant, where recovery teams are working approximately 1,200 meters inside the structure.

As of September 16, authorities have reported 1,403 deaths and 6,150 people missing, including 587 foreigners. Aerial rescue operations have successfully evacuated 4,191 individuals, consisting of 3,908 nationals and 283 foreigners.

More than 8,700 Army personnel have been deployed to the affected districts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot to coordinate rescue efforts, manage deceased individuals, provide emergency medical care, and clear blocked roads and bridges. Search operations also continue at the Trishuli 3A and 3B power plant sites using heavy machinery.
