Nepal restricts highway traffic as monsoon floods and landslides surge

The Nepalese government, through the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), will permit vehicle movement on affected roads only after confirming that flood and landslide risks have decreased. This decision follows forecasts of heavy to very‑heavy rainfall across 21 districts and aims to protect citizens during the monsoon season.

Police orders have banned all vehicles on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway from 6 pm to 4 am, on the Kanti Highway from 5 pm to 5 am, and have closed several other routes, including parts of the Mechi, Araniko, and BP Highways, after landslides, mudslides, and rockfalls made them unsafe. Travelers are urged to follow official weather and road updates and avoid risky sections.
