Nepal road networks disrupted by landslides and flooding

Heavy rainfall and incessant rain have caused widespread landslides and flooding across multiple districts in Nepal, leading to significant road obstructions and traffic restrictions. According to reports from the Nepal Police Headquarters, affected areas include Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Rukum West, Lamjung, Ilam, Nuwakot, Rolpa, Palpa, and Makwanpur.

Several major highways and roads are completely blocked. The Arniko Highway is closed at Iku and Lipping in Sindhupalchok due to landslides and road subsidence. The Mechi Highway is blocked at Rajduwali in Ilam due to mud accumulation, while the Pasang Lhamu Highway is blocked in Gosaikunda. In Rasuwa, the Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubeshi road is impassable following erosion by the Trishuli River. Other total blockages include the Jajarkot-Dolpa road in Rukum West and the Besisahar-Manang road in Lamjung.

To mitigate risks, authorities have implemented nighttime travel bans on several routes. In Kavrepalanchok, vehicular movement on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunje Besi road is prohibited from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am. Similar restrictions are in place on the Kanti Highway in Makwanpur and the Tokha-Chhahare road in Nuwakot, where only essential services are permitted during restricted hours.
