Nepal seeks aid for Bhotekoshi flood reconstruction
Nepal is seeking both international and domestic assistance to reconstruct areas devastated by the Bhotekoshi floods. Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal reported that following his meetings at the 81st United Nations General Assembly, the international community expressed solidarity and interest in supporting Nepal’s reconstruction efforts and addressing the broader climate crisis affecting the nation.
Domestically, Bagmati Province Chief Minister Kiran Thapamagar has called for support from the other six provinces to aid in rebuilding infrastructure destroyed by the disaster. Thapamagar noted that the floods caused significant loss of life and physical destruction across 15 municipalities in Bagmati. A meeting of all seven provincial Chief Ministers is scheduled for mid-October to discuss infrastructure proposals and collaborative reconstruction efforts involving all three levels of government.
