Nepal-Tibet border floods leave multiple pilgrims missing
Families of individuals missing following catastrophic flash floods near the Nepal-Tibet border continue to seek answers weeks after the disaster. The floods, which struck on August 26, devastated the region during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrimage.
Among those missing is Kanagamah Sundrasan, a 59-year-old mother from Springfield, who was traveling with the Kailash Journeys group. Her last contact occurred while walking toward the Gyirong Immigration Centre. A GoFundMe appeal has been established to support her family with travel and administrative costs during the ongoing uncertainty.
Similarly, the family of Venkatram and Anagha Annamdevara remains in distress. Their daughter, Tanvi, has shared the emotional and practical toll of the disappearance, noting that her parents, aged 52 and 49, have been untraceable since the floods hit the immigration centre area.
The scale of the disaster is significant, with international reports indicating over 1,400 deaths across Nepal and Tibet and thousands more unaccounted for. Search and identification efforts are being hampered by difficult terrain, widespread infrastructure damage, and heavy debris. Nepalese authorities are currently collecting DNA samples to assist in the identification process.
