Nepali Congress sets General Convention for October 2-5
Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has confirmed that the party’s 15th General Convention will proceed as scheduled in Kathmandu from October 2 to 5. Thapa emphasized that the timeline is dictated by the party statute, the constitution, and recent court rulings, leaving no room for postponement.
The announcement comes amid an internal leadership dispute with a faction led by former president Sher Bahadur Deuba. Thapa dismissed parallel meetings held by dissenting members as “meaningless and unjustified,” urging cadres to resolve leadership disagreements through the party’s democratic processes and upcoming convention rather than through unauthorized activities.
Thapa also addressed criticisms regarding his leadership and the party's recent electoral performance, stating he is open to competition for the party leadership during the convention to ensure a fair and inclusive process.
