Nepali Congress faces internal rifts during ward conventions

The Nepali Congress is experiencing internal friction and varying levels of engagement during its 14th and 15th General Convention ward-level processes across Nepal.

In Dadeldhura, a rift has emerged between District Working Committee President Bhim Bahadur Saud and Vice-President Dilli Raj Joshi. While Saud has ordered subordinate bodies to proceed with ward and municipality conventions according to the official schedule, Joshi has appealed for an immediate postponement. Joshi warned that continuing the convention process without resolving disputes between leaders Sher Bahadur Deuba and Gagan Thapa could lead to a party split.

In the Koshi Province, the convention process has met with mixed results. In Jhapa, an election was halted after a group burned ballot papers following a dispute in Shivsataxi Municipality. In Morang, membership disputes have delayed conventions in certain areas. While some regions report successful sessions, party leaders have noted a lack of enthusiasm and low turnout among active members compared to previous years, describing the atmosphere as less vibrant than in past conventions.
