Nepali Congress factions announce separate General Conventions

The Nepali Congress party is facing an internal split, resulting in two opposing factions scheduling separate 15th General Conventions.

The establishment faction, associated with former president Sher Bahadur Deuba, has proposed a schedule starting ward-level conventions on September 15, with the main convention planned for late November. This group's timeline follows legal disputes regarding the legitimacy of leadership changes.

In contrast, a dissident faction led by Dr. Shashank Koirala has announced its own 15th General Convention to be held in Kathmandu from December 7 to 9. This faction's schedule includes ward conventions on October 1, local-level conventions on October 6, and provincial conventions on November 20.

The dissident group is currently finalizing active memberships, with a deadline of September 26, and is forming various committees to oversee the election process and organizational statutes.
