Nepali Congress holds internal elections to reorganize party
The Nepali Congress, Nepal’s largest opposition party, is conducting elections to select its new Central Working Committee. The vote, held a year ahead of scheduled local elections, follows a setback the party experienced during the March elections.
Party President Gagan Kumar Thapa, who is running for re-election, stated that a primary objective for the party is to regain approximately one million traditional voters lost in the previous election. Thapa noted that the party aims to address voter grievances through a renewed organizational approach.
A total of 7,317 eligible general convention representatives are participating in the franchise. The election process began on Friday morning, with senior representative Shobhakanta Baral casting the first ballot.
