Nepali parliamentary leaders urge Prime Minister Shah to adopt inclusive governance
Parliamentary leaders from the CPN-UML and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) have criticized Prime Minister Balendra Shah for his unilateral governance style. During a House of Representatives meeting, NCP leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML leader Ram Bahadur Thapa urged the Prime Minister to adopt a more inclusive approach and maintain accountability to Parliament.
In addition to political criticisms, Ram Bahadur Thapa called for the government to establish special task forces to manage the aftermath of the Bhotekoshi flood that occurred on August 26. Thapa proposed that the Foreign Minister lead a task force to coordinate international assistance and compensation, while the Finance Minister should oversee reconstruction efforts.
To address the ongoing crisis, Thapa suggested creating a broad-based mechanism involving political parties, civil society, and experts. He also recommended the formation of a special parliamentary committee to monitor government actions and suggested pursuing a second edition of the Sagarmatha संवाद to build international solidarity regarding climate change.
