Nepal's DHM warns of flash flood risk as monsoon brings heavy rain to multiple provinces
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) issued a moderate flash‑flood warning for districts across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, noting heavy rainfall forecasts for hilly and southern plains. Rivers and streams in Ilam, Jhapa, Tehrathum, Panchthar, Dhankuta, Saptari, Sunsari, Morang, Doti and Dadeldhura are expected to rise sharply, with Kaski district’s Yanjakot recording 98.6 mm of rain.
At the same time, the DHM reported below‑normal rainfall in parts of Madhesh and Lumbini provinces despite an active monsoon, concentrating rain in the hills. Officials warned of thunderstorms, lightning, landslides and flooding, urging residents near rivers, landslide‑prone areas and flood‑vulnerable settlements to stay alert and follow updates.
