Neptun Deep offshore gas platform moves toward Black Sea for 2027 production

A 7,500‑tonne support structure for the Neptun Deep offshore gas project is being transported towards Romania's Black Sea waters. The 135‑metre‑high unit, built at the Arbatax shipyard in Sardinia, will be lifted by the Saipem 7000 crane and installed on the seabed using eight steel pilings.

The project, a €4 billion joint venture between OMV Petrom – the Romanian arm of Austria's OMV – and Romgaz, includes an offshore production platform, three subsea systems, ten production wells and a 30‑inch, 160‑km gas pipeline with accompanying fiber‑optic cable to the Romanian coast. First gas is expected in 2027, making it the largest offshore natural‑gas production endeavour in the EU.
