Nequi becomes an independent neobank in Colombia

Nequi has officially transitioned from a business unit of Bancolombia to an independent neobank, operating as Nequi S.A. Compañía de Financiamiento. As part of the Grupo Cibest, the platform now holds its own financial license and is supervised by the Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia.

For its approximately 29 million users in Colombia, the daily experience of using the application remains unchanged. Services such as money transfers, payments, recharges, and credit management will continue to function as before. Users can also continue to use Bancolombia ATMs and correspondents without additional costs.

The legal and financial restructuring allows Nequi to expand its service offerings. Potential new products include foreign exchange operations, remittances, and investment products such as Certificates of Deposit (CDT). Additionally, user deposits are now backed by Fogafín insurance, providing coverage of up to $50 million pesos per depositor.
