Netanyahu announces step‑by‑step plan to annex Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a conference in a West Bank settlement that Israel now controls about 60% of the Gaza Strip and intends to increase its hold, aiming for 70% and eventually full annexation. He framed the campaign as a "step‑by‑step" process, prompting a shouted call for 100% control.

The United States, represented by Senator Marco Rubio, expressed frustration at Netanyahu’s candor, noting that the U.S. does not support further territorial expansion while emphasizing a desire for a Gaza governed by a non‑Hamas entity. The plan is linked to a U.S.–led “Board of Peace” overseeing a 20‑point roadmap, with Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov appointed as its executive director. United Nations spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric reiterated the UN’s position on the humanitarian crisis, highlighting the urgent need for food, water, medicines and basic services amid the ongoing conflict.
