COP17 biodiversity summit preparations underway in Armenia
Armenia is preparing to host the COP17 biodiversity summit in Yerevan, an event described by UN Secretary-General António Guterres as being organized at a very high level. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Guterres to discuss the summit and emphasized that Armenia's primary goal remains the signing and ratification of a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.
To facilitate the summit, the Armenian government has allocated 18.5 billion dram from the 2026 state budget reserve fund for organizational services. The Ministry of Environment noted that twelve organizations, including two foreign entities, have applied for the pre-qualification process. Additionally, to accommodate the event, schools in Yerevan will implement a six-day work week for five weeks starting September 15, 2026, to allow for a two-week autumn break in October.
