NetApp to acquire PEAK:AIO to scale AI storage infrastructure

NetApp has announced its intention to acquire PEAK:AIO, a Manchester-based software-defined storage company, to bolster its artificial intelligence infrastructure strategy. The acquisition aims to address the growing demand for high-performance shared storage required by large-scale AI environments and expanding GPU clusters.

PEAK:AIO’s technology focuses on advanced metadata management and high-performance parallel file systems. By separating metadata from data, the architecture allows both layers to scale independently, preventing metadata services from becoming bottlenecks that leave expensive computing equipment idle. NetApp plans to integrate this technology into its ONTAP data-management platform to support shared file namespaces and parallel access via the NFS standard.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
