NetBSD and Linux release major kernel updates

NetBSD has released version 11.0, introducing several significant technical updates. Key highlights include a new port to the 64-bit RISC-V processor architecture, supporting devices such as the VisionFive 2 and PINE64 STAR64. The release also features enhanced compliance with POSIX 1-2024 and C23 standards, improved Linux system call compatibility, and initial support for the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite platform. Additionally, a new MICROVM kernel for x86 has been introduced, capable of booting in approximately 10 ms on 2020-era CPUs.

Concurrently, Linux 7.2 has arrived, featuring Cache Aware Scheduling after over a year of development. This update aims to prevent the scheduler from scattering related tasks across different zones on chips with multiple last-level caches. The release includes hardware support for AMD's upcoming Zen 6 architecture and Intel's next-generation Xeon Diamond Rapids chips. Other notable improvements include HDMI 2.1 support for AMDGPU and enhanced security features for TDX-enabled systems, allowing modules to update at runtime without requiring a full reboot.
