Updates to NetBSD, Linux, and QEMU

Overview

The NetBSD Project released version 11, its 19th major update, which introduces the first stable 64-bit RISC-V port, supporting hardware such as the StarFive VisionFive 2 and PINE64 STAR64. This release includes a MICROVM kernel designed for rapid startup times and an expanded Linux compatibility layer with new system calls to allow more software to run without modification.

In parallel, the Linux kernel has progressed toward version 7.3. While adding support for modern hardware like Apple M3 Pro, M3 Max, and M3 Ultra chips, the development cycle is also targeting a massive cleanup of legacy 32-bit ARM support. New features include runtime NVMe namespace hotplugging, sp-mem emulation for Intel accelerator workloads, and improved emulation for ARM, RISC-V, PowerPC, and HPPA architectures. The release also introduces dynamic management for QMP monitors and enhanced support for macOS Hypervisor Framework nested virtualization.
