Netflix India Storytelling Initiative Launched with Government Partnership
Netflix Co‑CEO Ted Sarandos met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5 August 2026 and announced the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative, a multi‑phase programme aimed at strengthening India’s creative ecosystem. Phase one partners with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) to develop a curriculum in Visual Effects Mastery and Media Technology Workflows and to award 100 scholarships to Indian students. Phase two will work with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) to build a talent pipeline and provide training for audio‑description writers and voice‑over artists.
At the same event, Netflix and the Ministry of Tourism launched the “As Seen on Netflix” section on the Incredible India website, showcasing real locations and cultural traditions featured in Netflix productions. The launch, held at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, included a fireside conversation between Sarandos and Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Separately, Netflix highlighted the economic impact of its series “Operation Safed Sagar,” reporting that the production injected over ₹215 crore (about US$24 million) into the Indian economy, employing hundreds of cast and crew, hiring thousands of daily workers, and engaging 15 Indian VFX studios. Over the past decade Netflix has produced more than 200 original titles and filmed in over 100 locations across India.
