Netflix celebrates 10 years in South Korea with fan festival

Netflix marked its tenth anniversary of operating in South Korea with a two-day fan festival, ‘Netflix Janchi’, held at the Culture Depot in Sangam, Seoul. The event was attended by approximately 10,000 people and drew 3.58 million online views.

Co-CEO Ted Sarandos attended the celebration, reaffirming the company’s commitment to the Korean entertainment industry. He noted that Korean stories have successfully crossed borders and language barriers to gain global popularity. The platform highlighted the massive reach of K-content, noting that approximately 80 percent of its global members have watched Korean programming.

During the event, Netflix provided previews of upcoming projects, including ‘Tantara’, ‘Possible Love’, ‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2, and a live-action ‘Solo Leveling’. High-profile actors such as Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Park Hae-soo from ‘Squid Game’ were in attendance, alongside stars from upcoming titles like Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo.

Economically, Netflix Korea reported its first year of annual revenue exceeding 1 trillion won, reaching 1.054 trillion won last year. While the platform has significantly expanded the local creative ecosystem and job creation, discussions continue regarding the economic impact and how much growth is reinvested into the domestic production industry.
