Netflix celebrates 15 years of expansion in Latin America
Netflix is celebrating 15 years of operations in Latin America, a region Francisco Ramos, the company's Vice President of Content for Latin America, described as its first site of international expansion and one of its most sophisticated markets.
Since launching services in the region in 2011, Netflix has seen constant growth driven by local content. Ramos noted that Latin American audiences consume a diverse range of global and domestic programming. He highlighted the 2015 Mexican series ‘Club de Cuervos’ as a milestone, being the platform's first non-English language production, which challenged the dominance of American audiovisual content.
The company continues to invest in high-impact productions based on Latin American literary classics, such as Gabriel García Márquez’s ‘Cien años de soledad’ and Juan Rulfo’s ‘Pedro Páramo’. Ramos emphasized the company's goal to be perceived as a local entity within each country, such as being seen as a Mexican company in Mexico or a Brazilian company in Brazil.
