Netflix expansion and local content in Latin America
Overview
Netflix is marking 15 years of operations in Latin America, a region described by Vice President of Content Francisco Ramos as the company’s first site of international expansion. The platform has focused on local content to drive growth, a strategy highlighted by the 2015 Mexican series ‘Club de Cuervos’, which served as the company’s first non-English language production.
In Mexico specifically, the company has produced or co-produced over 200 titles between 2016 and 2025 through collaborations with more than 50 production houses. To celebrate this milestone, Netflix announced 15 upcoming Mexican productions across various genres, including projects directed by Luis Estrada and Diego Luna. The company’s filming footprint in Mexico has also expanded, with approximately 50% of locations situated outside of Mexico City.
