Netflix film about Elize Matsunaga receives higher age rating

The Netflix film ‘Elize: Sombras de Uma Mulher’, which depicts the life and crimes of Elize Matsunaga, has become the platform’s most-watched non-English language production. The film follows the trajectory of Matsunaga, who was convicted in 2016 for the 2012 murder and dismemberment of her husband, businessman Marcos Kitano Matsunaga.

Following a review, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice increased the film’s age rating from 16 to 18. The reclassification was prompted by depictions of extreme violence, including the presence of blood, intentional death, mutilation, and the exposure of a corpse. The film stars Lorena Comparato in her first leading role.
