Netflix raises subscription prices in Germany, UK, and Austria

Netflix is implementing subscription price increases across several European markets, including Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom. The company cites the need for continued investment in its content library and service quality as the primary drivers for these adjustments.

In Germany, the price hikes affect all tiers. The ad-supported plan is seeing the largest percentage increase, rising from €4.99 to €6.99 (approximately 40 percent). The Standard plan (Full HD) is increasing from €13.99 to €15.99, and the Premium plan (4K) is rising from €19.99 to €21.99. Additionally, the ad-free basic tier for existing customers is being discontinued. Fees for adding extra members outside a primary household are also increasing, moving from €4.99 to €5.99 for most plans.

In the United Kingdom, the Standard with Ads plan has risen from £5.99 to £7.99, while the Standard plan moved from £12.99 to £13.99, and the Premium plan from £18.99 to £20.99. In Austria, the base price is increasing from €8.99 to €10.99.

Analysts from Citi suggest these increases could significantly boost revenue per user in the EMEA region. While new customers face immediate changes, existing subscribers are expected to receive notification via email prior to their next billing cycle to comply with consumer protection regulations.
