Netflix expands subscription price increases globally
Overview
Netflix is implementing subscription price increases across several major markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, and Italy. The company stated these adjustments reflect improvements to its “entertainment range and service quality.” In the United Kingdom, the ad-supported Standard plan rose from £5.99 to £7.99, a jump of over 33%. The ad-free Standard plan increased from £12.99 to £13.99, and the Premium plan rose from £18.99 to £20.99.
In Germany, as of September 3, new customers are subject to higher rates across all tiers. The ad-supported Standard plan rose from €4.99 to €6.99, the Standard plan increased from €13.99 to €15.99, and the Premium tier moved from €19.99 to €21.99. Fees for adding extra members outside a primary household have also risen. Following these adjustments, the consumer protection association VSV filed class-action lawsuits in Germany against Netflix, Apple TV, and Wow, arguing that price increases implemented via general terms and conditions are “unfairly disadvantageous and therefore invalid.”
Similar price hikes have been reported in Italy, where the ad-supported plan is rising from €4.99 to €6.99 per month, a 40% increase. Other tiers are seeing a €2 monthly increase. These adjustments in Italy reportedly do not include improvements to service quality, resolution, or additional features.
As of October 2026, Netflix has also increased monthly fees for all service tiers in Turkey. The Basic plan rose from 189.99 TL to 259.99 TL, the Standard plan increased from 289.99 TL to 389.99 TL, and the Premium plan rose from 379.99 TL to 499.99 TL. Existing members in Turkey will transition to the new rates following a 30-day official email notification.
