Netflix launches Brazilian crime drama 'Elize: Sombras de Uma Mulher

Netflix added a new fictional film to its catalogue on 22 July 2026 titled *Elize: Sombras de Uma Mulher*. The movie dramatizes the 2012 murder case of Elize Matsunaga, who was convicted of killing and dismembering her husband, Marcos Kitano Matsunaga. Lorena Comparato plays Elize, with Henrique Kimura as Marcos, and the cast includes Miwa Yanagizawa, Julia Shimura and Denise Weinberg. Directed by Felipe Vellas and written by Raphael Montes and Mariana Torres, the film explores the psychological and relational dynamics that led to the crime.

The release was highlighted in Netflix’s weekly launch roundup for 20‑26 July, which also featured other series and documentaries such as the second season of *Ransom Canyon* and the third season of *Entrevista com o Vampiro*. The addition of *Elize: Sombras de Uma Mulher* marks the latest adaptation of one of Brazil’s most notorious recent crimes, following a 2021 Netflix documentary and a 2025 Prime Video series on the same subject.
