Netflix surpasses ITV in UK revenue for the first time

Netflix has surpassed the United Kingdom’s largest commercial broadcaster, ITV, in annual revenue for the first time. In 2025, Netflix generated approximately $2.81 billion (£2.06 billion) in the UK, representing a 19% increase from 2024. This figure exceeds the £1.9 billion generated by ITV’s media and entertainment division.

Netflix’s growth was driven by a 7% increase in subscribers and higher average monthly revenue per member. The streaming service reported a post-tax income increase of 11.5% to $72.7 million. The company’s success in the region is supported by locally produced content such as ‘Baby Reindeer’, ‘The Gentlemen’, and ‘Adolescence’.

Regulatory data from Ofcom indicates a shift in viewing habits, noting that 26% of UK viewers turn to Netflix first when deciding what to watch, placing it ahead of the BBC (25%) and ITV (15%). While Netflix’s media revenue has overtaken ITV’s entertainment division, ITV’s total company revenue remains higher when including its ITV Studios production business.
