Netflix to debut Australian series My Brilliant Career on August 13
Netflix announced the global launch of its new Australian adaptation of Miles Franklin’s novel My Brilliant Career, scheduled for August 13, 2026. The series, filmed in Adelaide, stars Philippa Northeast as Sybylla and features a cast that includes Christopher Chung, Anna Chancellor, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kate Mulvany, Jake Dunn, Alexander England, Sherry‑Lee Watson and Miah Madden. Executive producers are Chloe Rickard, Liz Doran and Alyssa McClelland, with direction by McClelland and Anne Renton.
The release coincides with the 40th anniversary of the 1979 film My Brilliant Career, which competed at Cannes. Original cast and crew reflect on the classic’s legacy, recalling director Gillian Armstrong’s early triumphs and the film’s role in Australian cinema. Netflix’s promotion includes a trailer, key art and images, positioning the series as a fresh, locally filmed drama for its 2026 slate.
