Netflix’s six‑part Australian adaptation of Miles Franklin’s 1901 novel *My Brilliant Career* has concluded its first season. Starring Philippa Northeast as the independent Sybylla Melvyn, the miniseries follows her struggle to pursue a professional writing career while defying early 20th-century societal pressures to marry. The season finale depicts Sybylla choosing her professional ambitions and self-love over a romantic relationship with Harry Beecham.

While the ending suggests the character’s journey may continue, Netflix has not officially announced a second season. Although subsequent books exist following the character, the production was developed as a complete adaptation of the original novel, and there is currently no indication of further adaptations.

In conjunction with the series, Netflix ANZ launched “The Next Brilliant Career” mentorship program. Partnering with the Australian Writers’ Guild and state screen agencies, the initiative provides emerging female and non‑binary writers with feedback, mentorship, and the opportunity to pitch ideas to Netflix’s Sydney-based content team. Applications for the program were open until 18 August 2026.
