Netflix releases Swedish crime thriller Blood Sacrifice

Netflix has released ‘Blood Sacrifice’ (Blodsoffer), a five-episode Swedish Nordic Noir crime thriller set in Stockholm. Created by George Kay, known for ‘Lupin’ and ‘Hijack’, and directed by Kristoffer Nyholm, the series follows detective Thomas Berg (Jakob Oftebro) as he investigates a serial killer targeting police officers. The killings, which involve brutal decapitations following emergency calls, create intense pressure within the police force.

To solve the case, Berg must work with his estranged father, Alfred (Peter Andersson), a former detective whose career ended due to alcoholism and evidence tampering. The series explores themes of police bureaucracy, the psychological toll of the profession, and the complex relationship between father and son.

While the show premiered globally on August 20, 2026, Netflix has not yet confirmed if the production will continue beyond its initial five-episode limited format. The series is noted for its hybrid development model, combining British writing with Swedish production and cast.
