Netflix's Extraction 3 filming begins in New South Wales

Netflix has officially started production on the third installment of its Extraction franchise in New South Wales, Australia. The high‑octane thriller stars Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani, with Sam Hargrave returning as director and David Weil credited for the screenplay.

The shoot, slated to run from July through October 2026, is expected to create about 450 local jobs and inject an estimated AU$127 million into the state’s screen industry and broader economy, supported by the Australian Government’s Location Offset and the Made in NSW Fund. NSW Arts Minister John Graham and Netflix’s APAC production policy lead have praised the partnership.

Extraction 3 follows the 2020 and 2023 releases that each broke viewership records for Netflix originals. The new film is projected for a 2027 release and will be accompanied by ongoing spin‑off projects such as the Korean‑set film “Tygo” and the “Mercenary” series.
