Overview

Mid‑July 2026, Chris Hemsworth posted a training video from Costa Rica showing Hemsworth, Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani preparing for the sequel, hinting that filming was imminent.

Shortly after, Netflix confirmed that principal photography had begun in Sydney and along the South Coast of New South Wales. Directed by Sam Hargrave with a screenplay by David Weil, the shoot is scheduled to run from July through October 2026.

The New South Wales production is expected to create about 450 local jobs and inject roughly AU$127 million into the state economy, aided by the Australian Government’s Location Offset and the Made in NSW Fund. NSW Arts Minister John Graham and Netflix’s APAC production‑policy lead praised the partnership. Extraction 3, the third instalment after the 2020 and 2023 releases, is slated for a 2027 debut and will be accompanied by spin‑off projects such as the Korean‑set film “Tygo” and the “Mercenary” series.
