Nether Hambleton ruins emerge at Rutland Water due to drought

Severe drought conditions at Rutland Water in England have caused water levels to recede, revealing the remains of Nether Hambleton. The village was a rural settlement that was demolished and submerged in the 1970s to facilitate the creation of the reservoir.

The visible traces include stone foundations and other remnants of the former agricultural community. While the higher-ground settlement of Upper Hambleton survived to become the modern village of Hambleton, Middle and Nether Hambleton were lost to the engineering project. The area has a long history, with Nether Hambleton being part of a landscape documented as far back as the Domesday Book of 1086.
