Netherlands' 1‑0 loss to Algeria raises alarm ahead of World Cup 2026

The Dutch national team were beaten 1‑0 at home by Algeria in a friendly match ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Coach Ronald Koeman described the result as a "signal of alarm" and criticised the side for lacking aggressiveness and failing to convert early chances. He said, "I absolutely hate to lose. This was a match we should have won," and added that the team must win such games on home soil.

Algeria's winning goal came in the 86th minute from Anis Hadj Moussa. Koeman warned that the defeat should not cause panic but urged the squad to tighten details before travelling to New York for the tournament, where the Netherlands will face Uzbekistan in a final warm‑up. In the World Cup draw, the Dutch will meet Japan, Sweden and Tunisia in Group F.
