Netherlands' A20 Motorway Closed for Summer Maintenance in July 2026
Rijkswaterstaat will carry out major maintenance on the A20 near Rotterdam in summer 2026. The motorway will be fully closed in both directions between the Terbregseplein and Kleinpolderplein interchanges from Friday 3 July 22:00 until Friday 17 July 05:00, with traffic diverted via alternative routes such as the A2, A27, A15, A12, A4 and A13. Drivers are warned to expect 30‑60 minutes of additional travel time and are urged to allow space for emergency services.
A second, shorter closure will affect the stretch from Gouwe to Terbregseplein on the night of 3 July 22:00–4 July 07:00, and again on 16 July 21:00–17 July 05:00, with one lane kept open for local traffic. A further closure of the A20 towards Gouda is scheduled for 24 July 22:00 to 7 August 05:00. The works include replacing asphalt, improving drainage, renewing barriers and repairing viaducts and bridges, extending the road’s service life and safety.
