Netherlands AI adoption gains momentum amid labor market concerns
Recent analyses show that while stricter dismissal protection in the Netherlands has been linked to slower diffusion of artificial‑intelligence technologies in existing firms, Dutch organizations are now reporting higher returns from AI. A KPMG survey of more than 2,100 senior leaders across twenty countries found that 82% of Dutch respondents see AI delivering business value, up from 58% a quarter earlier, and that confidence in the future‑proofness of AI strategies rose from 72% to 81%. At the same time, a consumer report noted a sharp rise in public AI usage: 65% of Dutch people have tried an AI application, up from 43% the previous year, with weekly usage climbing from 19% to 40%. Younger generations lead this uptake, while older groups express worries about reliability, privacy and dependence. Academics warn that AI could also pressure traditional career ladders, especially for junior accountants, by reducing opportunities for hands‑on skill development.
These trends suggest a growing corporate confidence in AI’s benefits in the Netherlands, even as labour‑market regulations and generational attitudes shape the speed and nature of adoption.
