Netherlands: Average household purchasing power to decline slightly next year

According to purchasing power estimates from the CPB presented on Prinsjesdag, average household purchasing power in the Netherlands is expected to decline slightly next year. The projected decrease for most groups is limited to between 0.1 and 0.2 percent.

However, certain demographics are expected to see modest gains. Low-income workers are projected to experience an average increase of 0.2 percent, while pensioners are expected to see an average increase of 0.3 percent. These figures reflect the impact of government policy and do not account for individual changes such as employer-provided wage increases.

To mitigate the decline, an additional purchasing power package of approximately 1.7 billion euros has been implemented. Other budgetary measures include allocating 1.1 billion euros to development cooperation over the next three years and providing 750 million euros to slow the reduction of gasoline excise duty discounts. Additionally, the planned increase of the mandatory healthcare deductible by 60 euros has been postponed by one year.
