Netherlands begins autumn 2026 COVID-19 vaccination campaign

The autumn 2026 COVID-19 vaccination round in the Netherlands is commencing, with appointments becoming available starting August 25. The actual vaccination process will take place at 353 GGD locations across the country beginning September 21.

Target groups for the vaccine include individuals aged 70 and older, people between 50 and 69 with underlying medical conditions that increase their risk of severe illness, medical high-risk groups (such as those with severe immune deficiencies), and healthcare workers in direct contact with vulnerable patients. The age threshold for healthy individuals has been raised from 60 to 70 years, as hospitalizations among younger, healthy populations have become rare.

Individuals aged 70 and older will receive invitation letters from the RIVM by October 15. Those who received a vaccine last year and consented to data sharing will receive a proposed appointment time within their letter. Other high-risk individuals under 70 will not receive an invitation but can schedule appointments themselves via the RIVM website or by phone. Residents of care institutions will be vaccinated on-site.
