Wezep, Netherlands: Coach carrying German students crashes into van

A serious traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning on the A28 highway near Wezep, Netherlands. An Austrian-registered coach carrying 54 students and four teachers from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, collided with a delivery van.

Following the collision, the coach crossed the median and landed on its side in the embankment on the opposite side of the highway. The impact was so severe that the delivery van was split in two. Emergency services, including trauma helicopters, were deployed to the scene. Firefighters had to cut through the roof of the bus to rescue passengers.

Reports on the number of injuries vary, with some sources citing eight people hospitalized and others noting up to 16 injured. Many students sustained minor injuries, primarily cuts from shattered glass. While some victims were reported to be in serious condition, including the driver of the delivery van, police stated that no one was in immediate life-threatening danger. The A28 highway was closed in both directions for several hours to facilitate the investigation and recovery efforts.
