Netherlands closes N378 and Trekweg Warfhuizen for major road repairs
The provincial road N378 near Gasselte will be closed from 15 June to 3 July 2026. Work includes stripping the existing asphalt, laying a new surface with updated markings, installing grass‑paver slabs in the verges and replacing the bus stop to improve accessibility. Traffic will be diverted along signed alternate routes, and the nearby bicycle crossing will remain open.
The Trekweg between Warfhuizen and Leens will also be closed for the remainder of 2026. A €6.375 million programme will stabilise the riverbank with submerged sheet‑pile walls, add stone revetments and create safe animal passages, while redesigning the road with a sustainable surface. Construction starts on 8 June 2026 and is expected to last about 20 weeks, with a temporary bike route open from 20 July to 7 August. Detours will be provided for all traffic during the works.
