Netherlands moves to revoke Ongehoord Nederland broadcasting license

The Dutch government has initiated the process to revoke the broadcasting license of the right-wing media outlet Ongehoord Nederland. Minister of Education, Culture and Science Rianne Letschert announced the intention to withdraw the broadcaster's provisional recognition, citing a series of recurring issues rather than a single incident.

Key grounds for the decision include findings by the Media Authority that the broadcaster no longer meets legal requirements, insufficient cooperation with other broadcasters, and the imposition of two sanctions within a single year. Previous issues involved conflicts of interest, financial accountability, and the dissemination of misinformation. While a recent broadcast featuring comments regarding Adolf Hitler prompted the resignation of editor-in-chief Joost Niemöller, the Minister noted that the legal basis for revocation rests on structural regulatory failures.

The public broadcaster NPO has formally called for the revocation, citing systematic violations of journalistic ethics. Ongehoord Nederland's president, Peter Vlemmix, described the move as a concerning day for public broadcasting and indicated that the organization may pursue legal action to contest the decision.
