Netherlands enforces ban on Israeli settlement goods

The Netherlands has begun enforcing a strict ban on the import, purchase, and sale of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Gaza, the Golan Heights, and East Jerusalem. Effective as of September 22, 2026, the regulation applies to commercial shipments as well as personal luggage, including souvenirs and gifts. The ban covers products made entirely in these areas and those containing even a single ingredient from the designated territories.

At Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, customs officials and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee have implemented intensified baggage screenings for passengers arriving from Israel, including El Al flight travelers. Reports indicate that passengers have been directed to undergo thorough inspections for items such as wine, olives, and dates. Violations of the new law carry significant penalties: intentional circumvention can result in up to six years of imprisonment or heavy fines, while unintentional violations may lead to up to one year in prison.

In response to the trade sanctions, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced that Israel will revoke the diplomatic status of Dutch representatives operating in Ramallah, West Bank. These diplomats have been ordered to return their documentation within seven days, after which their diplomatic privileges and immunities will expire.
