Netherlands EV drivers report low charging stress on vacations

A Vattenfall InCharge survey of Dutch electric‑vehicle owners shows that 65 % say charging on the road is usually problem‑free and 63 % can easily find a suitable charging spot. More than half (57 %) view a charging stop as a normal rest break, and 61 % find the extra travel time acceptable. Nearly half (48 %) do not consider planning charging stops difficult. Director Alied Wessels Boer noted that larger battery ranges – from about 172 km in 2017 to an estimated 463 km in 2025 – reduce the need for frequent stops, and navigation systems now help locate chargers quickly.

Separate data on the Dutch market shows electric cars accounted for 36.5 % of new‑car sales in the first half of the year, far above the EU average of 20.7 %. The total fleet includes about 681 000 fully electric vehicles, roughly 7 % of all passenger cars. Projections indicate EVs could reach a 41 % share of new sales by 2025. The used‑car market is also shifting, with electric vehicles making up 6.7 % of second‑hand sales in the first half of 2026, amounting to over 70 000 units.
