Netherlands expands regional technical education initiatives

Regional initiatives in the Netherlands are expanding efforts to encourage interest in technical careers among youth. In Lelystad, approximately 1,500 students attended the fifth edition of ‘Techniek Tastbaar Lelystad’ at the Bataviawerf. The event featured 30 regional companies providing hands-on experiences in various fields, including robotics, welding, metalwork, and VR technology.

Simultaneously, the Makersfestival Zwolle has announced a growth model to transform into a full ‘making and technology week.’ Scheduled for March 2027, the expanded festival aims to engage children, youth, and adult career-switchers. The new theme, ‘Further than here,’ seeks to connect education, business, and culture to address societal challenges such as energy, artificial intelligence, and circularity.
