Netherlands fields 60 athletes for Birmingham athletics European Championships, adds gymnastics squad for Zagreb
The Netherlands will send a 60‑member athletics team (32 men, 28 women) to the European Championships in Birmingham, scheduled for 10‑16 August. Key athletes include Femke Broeders‑Bol, who moves from 400 m hurdles to the 800 m, world‑champion shot‑putter Jessica Schilder aiming for a third consecutive title, and medal contenders Nadine Visser and Lieke Klaver. The Dutch federation recalls a record‑breaking performance in Rome, where 12 medals were won.
In gymnastics, the Dutch selection for the European Championships in Zagreb (13‑16 August) features 2016 Olympic beam champion Sanne Wevers (34) making her comeback, 15‑year‑old Vera Ubbink debuting, and teammates Sanna Veerman, Naomi Visser and Floor Slooff. The squad aims to secure a team spot for the World Championships in Rotterdam later this year. Chiel Warners, technical director of the athletics federation, said, "We travel to Birmingham with a broad and versatile squad, combining experienced medal winners and emerging talent to strive for finals and medals while building toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics."
