Netherlands hosts expanded local festivals and canal concerts
Communities in the Netherlands are staging a series of celebratory events in July. In Wassenaar, a series of volunteer‑organised activities marks milestones such as the 20th anniversary of the Lentevreugd nature area, a historic hockey tournament, a children’s day at the Katwijk‑Leiden steam train, the 100‑year anniversary of the National Animal Welfare (NDZ) Rally, and a summer festival organised by the Wassenaar Fund.
Meanwhile, the 200th anniversary of the Zuid‑Willemsvaart canal is being marked with additional boat tours and live music performances from the water in Weert. Extra trips will accommodate over 1,000 visitors, with guided commentary on the canal’s history. Concerts include a shanty group and a Spanish ensemble performing from boats along the canal.
Both initiatives are supported by local cultural organisations, marketing bodies and volunteer groups, aiming to draw larger audiences and showcase regional heritage.
